A mala is a meditation necklace that has been worn by yogis, Hindus and Buddhists for thousands of years. It supports you on your spiritual path and helps you manifest your goals.
In this form of meditation, a specific mantra or affirmation is spoken aloud and repeated over and over again. So that the meditator can concentrate fully on the mantra - and not be distracted by counting the repetitions - he uses the mala as a counting aid.
The name "Rudraksh" means "Tears of Shiva" in German. (Rudra = name for Shiva, Aksha= eye).
According to legend, Shiva wanted to restore the well-being of all living beings. To do this, he sank into deep meditation in the mountains of the Himalayas for a thousand years. When he awoke from meditation, he opened his eyes and began to weep with compassion. His tears fell to the ground beside him and powerful trees grew where they touched the ground. The fruits of this tree and their seeds are therefore said to have special powers.
Rudraksha have fine lines that run straight from top to bottom. They divide the hard shell into several segments - and these segments are called Mukhi.
Depending on the number of Mukhis, the Rudraksha are said to have a specific, energetic effect and meaning.
